Invisible Wounds, by Delhi-based artist Vanshita Jain is an ongoing series of illustrations and drawings that comments upon her anxiety and mental turmoil due to invisible battles related to anxiety and body image issues. By working on pieces of cloth that once covered her body, Vanshita makes an effort to use the materiality of her paintings as an extension of herself. Her work is extremely personal and intimate and invites the viewer to come in close, inviting their gaze to roam freely around her work, exploring and questioning its narrative. Vanshita, through her work, breaks the taboo around mental health and encourages an open discussion about it.
Vanshita Jain is a practicing multidisciplinary artist based out of New Delhi, India. Graduated with a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the year 2020, her work showcases her struggles with mental health. Her presentation for the Platform section at Blueprint12 is her first showcase in India.
